The Big Bang Theory fans worried about Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) relationship with Amy (Mayim Bialik) after the events of the Season 7 finale should rest easy, based on new comments by one of the CBS sitcom's executive producers.

The Big Bang Theory Season 8 Premiere Date Revealed

Executive producer Steve Molaro spoke at Comic-Con in San Diego on Friday where he revealed that it's not necessarily over between Amy and Sheldon, the latter of which was ready to board a train out of Pasadena in the Season 7 finale.

"He didn't leave because of Amy," Molaro clarified, via TVGuide.com. "I would argue that they do have their own weird brand of happiness right now. That kiss on the train is pretty indicative of that."

Penny Leaves Acting Behind For New Career When The Big Bang Theory Returns

Sheldon was informed by Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) at the end of Season 7 that they would likely be moving in together, which caused Sheldon to have a minor breakdown.

Molaro discussed Penny and Leonard's new engagement and how it would affect things in Season 8.

"They are engaged, but the wedding is sometime off in the future," Molaro revealed. "Penny's first goal is to put the date far enough in the future so everyone knows that she's not pregnant."

The Big Bang Theory Season 8 is set to have its premiere on Monday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. on CBS. It will only be on Mondays for a few months in the fall as CBS makes way for Thursday Night Football. It will then return to its regular Thursdays at 8 p.m. timeslot.
