The Beastie Boys' iconic second album Paul's Boutique is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, a mural is being painted in their native New York City to honor the legendary hip hop group, and the album Paul's Boutique as well.

Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch Dies At 47

On Saturday, Billboard reported that Brooklyn artist Danielle Mastrion that morning.

The mural is being painted on the wall of Wolfnights, a sandwich shop at the corner of Rivington and Ludlow, where the photo that adorns the album cover of Paul's Boutique was taken. It is one of the more memorable covers of an album, and is a piece of Beastie Boys lore. Mastrion is providing updates via her Instragram account, for those who are interested in following the progress. The mural project is being led by LeRoy McCarthy, who had previously tried to get the intersection renamed Beastie Boys Square, although it was shot down.

A Celebration Of The Beastie Boys' Music Video

Of course, and unfortunately, part of the reason there are a handful of Beastie Boys related memorial projects going on these days is because of the untimely passing of Adam Yauch, aka MCA, in 2013. Yauch had a park in Brooklyn Heights named after him in his honor last year.

The two remaining Beastie Boys, Adam Horovitz aka the King Ad-Rock and Mike Diamond, aka Mike D, have retired the name Beastie Boys with respect to Yauch. The group remains one of the most influential, successful hip hop acts of all time, which is how one gets murals painted in honor.
