The Blacklist's Raymond 'Red' Reddington and Liz Keen have a complicated relationship, but it will be quite some time before viewers get to find out how their pasts entwine.

The NBC drama dropped by the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, and James Spader (Red) put a different spin on the Red/Liz relationship for fans. Instead of wondering if Red and Liz (Megan Boone) are somehow related, viewers should focus on how the pair relate to each other now.

"Whatever that relationship is between Elizabeth Keene and Raymond Reddington is not the most significant question to be answered," Spader said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "What the show is about-and it creeps up on you-is: What is the nature of their relationship now?"

Season 1's "Berlin" and "Berlin: Conclusion" threw a wrench in the duo's working relationship, but the young FBI profiler ultimately chose to continue their partnership - momentarily without the help of the FBI - despite recent events. However, Liz's questions regarding Red and Tom's contradictory information regarding her father may still carry over into season 2.
