The Blacklist's Raymond 'Red' Reddington is a man of many mysteries, but actor James Spader has the answers.

James Spader Dishes On Red & Liz Relationship At Comic-Con 2014

The NBC drama dropped by the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, and Spader explained that he has known Red's back story since the beginning.

"We've talked a lot about that, right from the very beginning," Spader said, according to Spoiler TV. "We talked about it around the time of the pilot and then when it looked liked we were going to be lucky enough to move forward into series, those conversations have been happening fast and furiously."

Although Spader may know what the series wants to reveal, he doesn't know how long it will take for it to play out.

"By the same token, without knowing what the inevitable life span of the series will be, [Red's story is] one that has to be fluid to a certain degree and there has to be a certain amount of flexibility because you don't know the amount of time you're going to have to tell your story," Spader continued. "Therefore, how many misdirects there may be or how circuitous you're route is going to be to get to your endgame is unclear."
