'NCIS' Season 12 Spoilers: Ducky's Past Revealed & Younger David McCallum Shown
Next season of NCIS will bring fans a little closer to Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, played by David McCallum.

Showrunner Gary Glasberg told TVLine.com that the beginning of season 12 will explain how Ducky started with the NCIS team.
He revealed that episode 3 will focus on "a Ducky origin story, where people learn all kinds of things about his past and see a younger David McCallum, so we're excited about that."

However, McCallum - one of the show's original cast members - won't be the only character in focus. Glasberg also has some big plans for fan favorite Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly.)
"It's time for Tony to continue to grow a little bit," Glasberg previously told TVLine.com. "He went through a lot last year emotionally and tried to deal with Ziva's departure as he could."
Ziva David, played by Cote de Pablo, emotionally left the show back in October but Tony's sadness will soon be gone. Glasberg has plans to introduce Tony to a new love interest. And, Tony will meet this lady through a case. "We'll be mature about it and handle it properly, and Michael's excited about it," Glasberg added.
Season 12 of the hit CBS show will premiere at 8/7c on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The new spin-off, NCIS: New Orleans, will kick off right after.
