Country superstar Carrie Underwood will be returning to NBC's 2014 Sunday Night Football this year to perform the iconic opening theme song, and yesterday the network offered a look inside the making of the elaborate opening sequence.

The two-and-a-half minute NBC Sports featurette (featured below) shows the storyboards, sets, and intense commitment that went into turning Underwood's performance of Waiting All Day For Sunday Night an epic experience.

"I think anytime you get great players together, and a talent like Carrie," explained director Tripp Dixon, "It's gonna be big."

The special look teased football players riding bicycles, stage diving, and even doing a little singing. As for Underwood, the singer shined in a sparkly silver dress with the powerhouse voice to match. "I grew up watching football," she explained, "I have a passion for it, I have a passion for music."

Underwood first promoted her involvement with the show on Twitter June 25 when she reposted an NBC Sports photo of herself on set, all glammed up and ready to go. She has yet to reveal any further details, however, or divulge any secrets about the latest take on the iconic sequence.

With flashing lights and a grand stage, NBC is certainly working hard to live up to the hype with a large crew and dedicated performers.

Sunday Night Football, which began back in 2006, returns to NBC Sunday, September 7. The Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts will have the honor of playing the first game with this year's opening sequence.
