Marvel revealed a lot of footage and props from their upcoming blockbuster, Avengers: Age of Ultron, at Comic-Con but one such prop caused a lot of questions when it appeared at the Marvel booth.

Is Steve Rogers No Longer Captain America? Is A Familiar Face Taking Over?

During the panel, Marvel unveiled the first footage from the Joss Whedon-directed Avengers 2 that featured Iron Man looking over a wrecked group of Avengers, including the broken shield of Captain America.

"The final shot of the preview footage revealed actor Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, surveying the 'the galactic wasteland of some destroyed planet,' surrounded by the rest of the Avengers as they lay dead at his feet," The Inquisitr reported.

"The sequence, which may allude to the powers of Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, also showed Captain America's shield, battle-damaged and broken."

Having Captain America be the Avenger who dies would make the most sense when it came to contractual sense. Chris Evans has gone on the record as to saying that he would be done with acting after his six-film deal with Marvel was completed (this includes Captain America, Avengers, and Captain America 2 so far).

But Scarlet Witch is also in the film and has the powers, much like the X-Men in Days of Future Past, to change events and fix what happens. So while it is possible that Steve Rogers could die, he also could be revived to fulfill the rest of his contract.

Evans has three movies left, which it is assumed will be two Avengers sequels and another standalone Captain America movie, so his death wouldn't make much sense for Avengers 2.

Now Avengers 3 could be another story.
