Hot new band 5 Seconds of Summer is opening up for One Direction on their upcoming summer tour, but why were they so nervous about the chance to be with 1D?

"It was all very scary for us because we were a young rock band type of thing," 5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin told Radio Disney (via People) in an interview set to air August 4. "We were very confused by why we would go on tour with One Direction in the first place because it was so different."

Although it was different, the band knew how great of an opportunity it was to get their music to a larger audience. "It seemed like a good idea to grow our music and our live performance [skills]," he said. Irwin also said that the two bands together would make "such a dynamic tour" and "really explain the difference between the two bands," especially since they tend to get compared to one another a lot.

"It's cool that young kids get to go home with a bit of education on rock music," he also said. One Direction actually helped discover 5SOS, so it's not a real surprise that 1D would ask them to be on their Where We Are tour.

"We discovered 5SOS on YouTube last year and we all knew straight away they were very special," Niall Horan said previously." We're so excited to have them on the road with us and we know our fans are going to LOVE what these lads do."
