After announcing that he would be leaving ABC's Dancing With the Stars, dancing pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy admitted that the show might be running out of real celebrities to compete.

Chmerkovskiy appeared on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live after announcing his departure as a performer on Dancing With the Stars, where he fielded a question about the show possibly running its course.

"I saw that there were a lot of changes last season," he said. "I took a year off. I skipped two seasons and I came back. I personally fell in love with the show. It's not something I need to say now that I'm not even part of it, but it's definitely amazing entertainment...I do think it needs to stay on. I'm a big supporter of anything dance related. And I think it's brilliant. My problem is that we're running out of legitimate celebrities. That's the problem."

The most recent season of Dancing With the Stars, which Chmerkovskiy won with ice dancing pro Meryl Davis, featured a number of athletes, some of which weren't the best known, such as swimmer Diana Nyad and Paralympian Amy Purdy.

Dancing With the Stars has never really featured A-list celebrities, though some have grown into superstars, such as Kim Kardashian, who competed in Season 7.

It is not known if Chmerkovskiy will be returning in another capacity for Season 19, such as a judge position, though he is rumored as wanting to be on the panel.

Dancing With the Stars Season 19 is slated to premiere on Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC. The reality series will also have an accompanying results show for the first two weeks of competition.
