Jessica Barrymore was found dead on Wednesday and early reports are saying that the 47-year-old died of what looks to be a drug overdose.

Half-sister to actress Drew Barrymore (E.T., The Wedding Singer) and a member of the Barrymore Hollywood dynasty, Jessica was found surrounded by alcohol, meth, an energy drink, and assorted pills inside of her Toyota near San Diego, Calif.

The NY Daily News reported early Thursday morning that local resident Marta Lopez found Jessica when she approached the woman about her car, which was parked in front of Lopez's driveway. Lopez called out to her and when Barrymore was unresponsive she called the police, who declared Jessica dead after getting into her vehicle.

While Drew had not been close with her sister, the pair had only met on a handful of occasions, she did release a statement to The NY Daily News following Jessica's death. "I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss," said the actress.

According to their brother, 60-year-old John Barrymore, it does not seem likely that Jessicaintentionally took her own life. "It looks like it was a drug misadventure," he explained, "Mixing alcohol and pills. I seriously doubt she took her own life."

Her brother went on to compare her death to that of actor Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain, The Dark Knight) who was found dead in 2008 from a lethal combination of alcohol and pills. Ledger's death was believed to have been an accident.

A history of substance abuse runs in the Barrymore family. Drew herself was drinking as early as nine years old and her grandfather, John Barrymore, reportedly died as a result of alcoholism.

Jessica's body is currently with the medical examiner in San Diego County. She would have been 48 on Thursday.
