UPDATE: Remy Ma was expected to leave prison on Thursday morning, but according to Revolt she wasn't released because of a "disciplinary problem" that occurred on July 21. A new release date hasn't been announced.

Remy Ma – who spent six years behind bars – was released around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

The Bronx rapper, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, served her sentence at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York. The 34-year-old was charged with assault for a 2007 shooting in New York City. The former Terror Squad member was given eight years in prison, but was released earlier than expected.

New York radio station Hot 97 reported that Remy Ma’s husband/rapper Papoose, her managers and friends were there to pick her up.

A day before his wife's release, Papoose shared an old photo on Instagram of the two of them together. The two married in 2008 while she was incarcerated.

Last week, Remy Ma phoned in to New York’s Power 105.1 to speak with radio host Angie Martinez and revealed that she’s “shocked” that her husband stood by her side all these years. “Now, after you hold somebody down for six and a half years, it's kind of serious,” she said.

The rapper – who received a degree in sociology while in jail – also spoke of her plans after release and revealed that there’s a reality show in the works.

“They're making me do it. I keep telling them 'No! It's too real!’” she told Martinez. “They don't want to listen to me. It's happening, but it's about my career and me leaving here.”
