One Direction made their 2014 American debut last night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. While fans couldn't have been more excited to see the boys on their Where We Are tour, it seemed 1D was just as happy to be there.

After the big show, Niall Horan couldn't hold in his excitement. On Monday, Horan tweeted, "Had the most amazing night at @MLStadium in New Jersey tonight! Stadium is epic, crowd also! Big love" He then posted a photo backstage on his Instagram account and wrote, "This was pretty cool backstage ! #SuperBowl"

Despite headlining their tour, Simon Cowell reportedly thinks the boy band needs to step up their game after the massive fame their openers 5 Seconds of Summer is getting.

"It does mean 1D have to up their game a bit. We knew a lot of boybands would follow but the competition is tough at the moment," Cowell said according to The Daily Star, published on Sunday. In terms of 5SOS opening for them, Cowell thought the decision was an odd one. "I think it was a strange decision. A bit like the cuckoo in the nest."

5 Seconds of Summer is going on their own headlining tour after wrapping up the 1D tour. The new boy band revealed dates through Facebook for November 2014 and summer 2015 across the United States.

1D will be at MetLife Stadium for the second night of their Where We Are tour tonight.
