A great ending stays with you. It resonates," explained series creator Terence Winter in an interview with Variety on Tuesday. "It's something so powerful that you sit with friends and talk about what it might mean, the deeper implications."

Could these "deeper implications" mean that this season won't just be about the deaths? Could Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi), rumored to meet his end this season, just make it out alive? According to Winter, some actors actually requested their characters be killed off.

"I can't say who; I can't say whether we did," teased the writer. "People want to go out with a bang. They're like, 'Can you give me a really horrific, bloody death?' It's like, yeah, why not? You want to go out in a blaze of glory."

While Winter refuses to answer any big questions about the season, he has talked openly at where the characters will be starting out in Season 5 and what they are striving for. With the nearing end of prohibition, things are changing politically, socially, economically, and especially criminally.

"This year, Nucky witnesses what he has wrought because of his lifestyle," noted Winter. "I always wanted to explore the effects of what Nucky did for a living. I had an end point for him from the beginning. Now, I know in specific detail how it exactly happens. He sees the chickens come home to roost."
