In a recent interview with TV For The Rest Of Us (featured below), Tonkin admitted that Klaus might not be the right person for her character to be turning to, even if he does understand what she's going through.

"She's lost and very angry," explained the actress, "And she's probably kind of looking to Klaus a little too much for guidance." Tonkin went on to describe how the typically strong Hayley has become "emotionally… very broken" and looking to find herself. "She doesn't know what she wants," claimed Tonkin, "Or what she's fighting for anymore."

'The Originals' Gets A New 'Epic' Trailer For Season 2

Hayley is likely to be the character experiencing the most change at the start of Season 2. No longer pregnant with baby Hope, she is now a mother without her child. She has also lost her identity, having gone from orphan to werewolf royalty to vampire-werewolf hybrid. Now that she is a hybrid, her community of werewolves no longer trusts her and she will be working to earn their faith all over again.

"She's gonna have to prove to them that she's their leader," said Tonkin, "and she's going to protect them."

The Originals returns to The CW for a second season on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
