The third installment of the Expendables may be the only one with a PG-13 rating, but that doesn’t seem to take away from the film. Original cast member Randy Couture deemed the upcoming movie - coming to theaters on Aug. 15 - the best one yet.

“There is still all the action and all the things that you’d expect from an Expendables movie just maybe no F-bombs and no blood and guts,” Couture told Enstars over the phone. “As amazing as the first two were, this film has a little more of a soul, a little more heart and a storyline that carries through the picture.”

The new Lionsgate action film, which features motorcycle-riding mercenaries fighting for their lives, brought on a new director, Patrick Hughes, and expanded its already star-studded cast to include Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas and Harrison Ford, who put his real-life pilot license to good use by flying the characters around in the film. Kelsey Grammer, an unlikely fit, was even added to the movie.

“He plays this quirky character and he’s amazing,” Couture said about the comedian. “I just think his character is brilliant.”

Couture, 51, reprised his role as Toll Road, whom he described as a “flawed, highly skilled and highly educated individual.”

“He doesn’t really have a lot of other family or anybody else that he cares about,” Couture added. “He’s willing to kind of go to bat and do whatever it takes for these guys.”

The Expendables, also starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jason Statham, has become a very lucrative franchise. The first and second installments topped the domestic box office in 2010 and 2012 respectively and have grossed over $500 million collectively. Being a part of the success, Couture said, is incredible.

“I’m excited and nobody does this better than Sylvester Stallone,” he said about the star who wrote and directed the first Expendables. “It’s really cool to be part of an ensemble cast like this.”

The actor noted that his character doesn't die in the third film, which means he’d be back for a fourth film, if it were to head into production. Couture also noted that he’d love for Clint Eastwood and Dwayne Johnson to join the cast in the future.

In the meantime, Couture is focused on another impending project – Gym Rescue. The Spike TV series will air on Aug. 10 for a three-episode test run and will feature Couture and Frank Shamrock as hosts. The two former mixed martial arts fighters will visit failing gyms and attempt to improve them with new equipment and facilities as Jon Taffer does for nightlife venues on Spike TV's Bar Rescue.

Couture, who landed his first movie role in 2003’s Cradle 2 the Grave and retired from MMA three years ago, is also looking to broaden his acting resume.

“I’ve always been a fan of the western genre. I think that would be a fun genre for me but I’m open to anything,” said Couture, who would also like to star in a romantic comedy. “I think I like to step outside the box and challenge myself.”
