Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Dornan will star in The Siege of Jadotville. The story is about the siege of 150 U.N. Irish troops in 1961 in the Congo after pro-Western warlord Moise Tshombe took control of the Katanga region and killed the democratically elected Congolese prime minister Patrice Lamumba.

Dornan will play Commandant Pat Quinlan, the Irishman who led the U.N. battalion.

"I can't wait to get stuck into Jadotville," said Dornan in a statement about the film. "It's an unbelievable story and Commandant Pat Quinlan is going to be a treat of a character to tackle. I'm a big fan of both Richie Smyth and [producer] Alan Moloney and I'm very much looking forward to working with them both."

The film is set to shoot spring 2015 in Ireland and South Africa after Dornan wraps up promotion for Fifty Shades of Grey, which comes out February 2015.

This new role comes after Dornan was reportedly in talks to join Bradley Cooper in a new film, too. Last week, Page Six reported that Dornan cut his Italy vacation short to meet with Harvey Weinstein and John Wells to discuss their untitled film about a chef. Cooper, Sienna Miller, Uma Thurman, Emma Thompson and Omar Sy are already attached to the project about a hard partying chef who sabotages his career, but sobers up to redeem himself and his work.
