While nothing official every materialized from this, it is always fun to speculate at what could've been. Too bad the rumors are dead in the water even before something could've come to fruition.

Could Superman's Killer Appear In 'Justice League?'

The Los Angeles Times reported that 21st Century Fox withdrew their bid to buy Time Warner on Wednesday. While this doesn't immediately depress comic book fans, it is fair to mention that Time Warner owns Warner Bros., which in turn owns DC Comics.

This means the possibility of a Justice League and X-Men crossover will not be coming anytime soon. It also would have given DC the opportunity to work with Fox, who has been shown to have a solid handle as of late on the superhero blockbuster craze.

Big Bad Darkseid May Not Meet 'Justice League' Until The Sequel, Possible Tease Could Happen Sooner

In the comics, there were a few instances of the X-Men and the Justice League meeting up during the story-lines where The Avengers and DC Comics merged for a few stories. The possibilities would of been astronomical with X-Men possibly reaching its peak interest right now at the movies after the success of Days of Future Past.

While the crossover would of been an interesting trick to fight off the success of Marvel's Avengers movies, it also would of given DC an opportunity to gain some popularity with their Justice League movie hitting theaters without many origin story movies like Marvel did. That's not to say it wouldn't work as Marvel's own Guardians of the Galaxy featured a team-up without any origin stories for each member.

Either way, it is disappointing for some fans that the X-Men and Justice League crossover never will happen, but at least it leaves DC to carve their own path in the superhero genre.
