If there's one person to watch out for on next season of Downton Abbey, it'll likely be Edith who will be going through a situation that might leave her defeated.

Actor Reveals 'The Biggest Challenge' Of 'Downton Abbey'

On Thursday, Hit Fix posted an interview with Laura Carmichael (Edith) who dished on how her character was not left in a good spot last season due to hiding a baby. And it sounds like things are going to get worse in the way the actress was describing what she'll be dealing with.

"It's a tricky place. She's on knife-edge," Carmichael said. "And the thing that I think makes this situation even worse, which sounds not-too-exciting is that nobody really knows. Even though she's having a horrible time and Gregson's disappeared and her child is separated from her, in the country but not living with her, the family have no idea."

Unfortunately for Edith, it doesn't look like she'll be getting any sympathy from the people around her who will basically be telling her to suck it up.

"So it's like a private pain, which only sort of adds to that, 'Oh pull yourself together Edith' kind of attitude from the family," Carmichael said. "So it's a lovely story. I mean the arc is great, but it's not a great place. In the same way that Mary last year, they've done that. You knew that coming into Season 4 that Mary was going to be under a cloud. And I think in Season 5 Edith will be."

Downton Abbey Season 5 is expected to premiere in the United States on Sunday, January 4 on PBS.
