One of the executive producers of BBC's Sherlock would be interested in doing a crossover between his show and another massively popular British series.

Two hugely popular British shows could converge for a special, according to Sherlock EP Steven Moffat, but the chances of it actually happening are unlikely. Asked if there would be any potential for a Sherlock-Doctor Who crossover, Moffat said the scheduling probably wouldn't work out.

"Go speak to [Benedict] Cumberbatch, [Martin] Freeman, [Mark] Gatiss and [Sue] Vertue, OK? They're all in the way. I'm not the killjoy, it's that lot," Moffat said at the Doctor Who premiere in Cardiff, naming off his Sherlock cast and crew.

Moffat is also an executive producer on Doctor Who. He said: "Look I'm going to come clean on this: I would."

Despite the potential for massive popularity among fans, Moffat said that it may just be better imagined.

"Mark [Gatiss] has got a point when he says that however good you imagine it, it would be better in your imagination than it would be if the two grand old egotists actually met," Moffat said. "They'd just both go off in opposite corners and sulk."

BBC One announced in July that filming would begin on a one-off Sherlock special in January 2015. They also announced that filming would begin on the three episodes of Season 4 later in 2015. Presumably, this means that fans would probably be getting this content by the end of 2015 and/or early 2016.
