Derek Hough, one of the more popular pro dancers on ABC's Dancing With the Stars, revealed exactly how he cast to be on the show in his new book.

In his memoir Taking the Lead: Lessons From a Life in Motion, Hough discusses how the five-time champion was asked to be a part of the show.

It all started when his sister Julianne Hough was asked to be a part of Season 4. Derek joined her in Week 6 of the competition, where they performed a "groovy little number." DWTS producer Rob Wade came to Derek after the performance and straight up asked him, "'Hey, Derek. Great job. You have any interest in joining us next season?'" according to an excerpt from the book, per Parade.

"I didn't even need a minute to think it over. 'Nope,' I replied. "'Thanks, but it's not really what I want to do.'" he writes.

Derek had been living in London with fellow pro Mark Ballas. The pair had a band called Amazing Amy and they seemed devoted to it at the time. However, Ballas had sent in an audition tape to DWTS, and producers still wanted Derek as well.

This caused Derek and Ballas to decide to go and do the show together, and the rest is history.

"I went into it very excited but also nervous," he writes. "I knew a lot of the pros already through the ballroom circles, and I knew how good they were. I was coming in as a world youth champion-which is a big step below being a champion in the amateur or professional divisions. But on DWTS, the playing field was leveled."

Since Season 5, Derek has become the most successful dancer on the show, winning five seasons with his various celebrity pros. It is not known if he will be participating in DWTS this fall, but it seems likely at this point.

Season 19 of Dancing With the Stars is set to premiere Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
