Famous friends took time to remember Robin Williams, a legendary actor and comedian who passed away on Aug. 11 at the age of 63.

Jimmy Fallon teared up on the Tonight Show on Tuesday while discussing Williams’ passing and commended the actor’s career calling him “the Muhammad Ali of comedy.”

“He was one of a kind. He was one in a million. He’s like unbelievable,” Fallon said. “If you don’t know his standup you should YouTube right now and just watch it.”

On Twitter, comedian Norm Macdonald detailed the first time he visited the Late Show with David Letterman and he was scheduled to appear after Williams. He recalled being “terrified” in the dressing room and was talking to a friend on the phone when the established and famous Williams walked by. Macdonald quickly told his friend.

“I guess he heard me say his name, cause in an instant he was at my side. He was a jewish tailor, taking my measurements. He went down on his knees, asked which way I dressed. I told my friend on the phone that the funniest man in the world was on his knees before me, measuring my inseam. My friend didn't believe me so I said, ‘Could you talk to my friend, sir.’ The funniest man in the world took the phone and for ten minutes took my friend's chinese food order,” he wrote.

The jokes continued in the dressing room. “The funniest man alive was in my dressing room a good half-hour and was far funnier than the set I had to do soon,” Macdonald added. “When he left my dressing room, I felt alone. As alone as I ever remember feeling. Until today. Unacceptable.”

Matt Damon released a statement to remember his Good Will Hunting co-star. “Robin brought so much joy into my life and I will carry that joy with me forever. He was such a beautiful man. I was lucky to know him and I will never, ever forget him,” he said. “I truly hope the people in the media can find it within themselves to give his family some privacy during this horrible time.”

Ben Affleck, who co-wrote and also starred in the aforementioned film, wrote a touching message for the late star on Facebook: “Heartbroken. Thanks chief - for your friendship and for what you gave the world. Robin had a ton of love in him. He personally did so much for so many people. He made Matt and my dreams come true. What do you owe a guy who does that? Everything. May you find peace my friend.”

The Roots member Questlove shared a photo of Williams on Instagram with the details of their hilarious first encounter. Questlove said he was grateful that someone of Williams’ magnitude recognized them at the 2001 Grammys.

He wrote: “This particular Sunday we were walking backstage and had to ride the elevator to the backstage area and we piled inside when suddenly this voice just said "questlove.....black thought....rahzel....the roots from Philadelphia!!!! That's right you walked on this elevator saying to yourself 'ain't no way this old white dude knows my entire history and discography'"....we laughed so hard. That NEVER happened to us before.”

Actor Nathan Lane, who co-starred with Williams in Bird Cage, released an emotional statement for his late friend.

"I feel I have to say something more than just 'heartbreaking and shocking' which everyone has said and I feel as well, but something a little more personal. Thus the following: One day in 1995 while riffing in the character of a snobby French toy store owner, Robin made me laugh so hard and so long that I cried," he said in a statement. "It seemed to please him no end. Yesterday I cried again at the thought that he was gone."

Glenn Close, his The World According To Garp co-star, wrote a long message on Facebook. One portion explained how sweet Williams was to those who often are ignored: “Robin was incredibly sensitive to the crew, to the people who don't always get the recognition they deserve for the various jobs they do during a shoot. Robin knew everyone's name and could always get a laugh---not a laugh aimed at himself, but a laugh that recognized others. He gave various favorite crew members special nicknames.”

Williams also had a major affect on younger stars. Actress Lindsay Lohan tweeted: “Mr. Williams visited me the first day of filming The Parent Trap. I will never forget his kindness. What an enormous loss. My condolences.”
