Gabourey Sidibe will have a role in FX's American Horror Story: Freak Show that is drastically different from her role in Coven.

Kathy Bates Talks 'Freak Show' Past

Sidibe is set to play a Barbizon School grad who is well-off financially and dressed fashionably, according to a new spoiler report by TVLine. Her character in Freak Show comes back to town (Jupiter, Fla.) in order to attend to a family matter.

R&B legend Patti LaBelle is set to play Sidibe's character's mother, who is figuring out the details behind a murderous clown killer named Twisty (John Carroll Lynch).

Jessica Lange's Character in Freak Show Thinks 'Suburban Women' Are The Real 'Freaks'

Sidibe previously played Queenie in American Horror Story: Coven, a young witch who had the power of being a human voodoo doll. Unlike her new character, she was not well-off and worked in a fried chicken shack before moving to the witch academy. However, she was one of few characters who managed to survive the season and have a happy ending.

American Horror Story: Freak Show is set in the 1950s and revolves around one of the last remaining freak shows in America. Jessica Lange is playing Elsa Mars, a German expatriate who owns the freak show. Among her troupe of freaks are Dot and Bette (Sarah Paulson), Effil Darling (Kathy Bates), Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett), Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters) and an unknown character played by Frances Conroy.

It appears that Sidibe will be one of the only actors whose character is not involved with the feak show, though anything can happen on American Horror Story:

American Horror Story: Freak Show is set to premiere in October on FX, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date.
