It looks like the Power Rangers movie script is moving along well so far as Lionsgate has set a date that resembles another nostalgia-fueled movie that did well this year.

'Chuck' Star Spoofs 'Power Rangers', Shows Interest In A Role In Movie Reboot

Lionsgate took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that the Power Rangers reboot will open in theaters on July 22, 2016. The announcement came in conjunction with Saban Brands.

The release date shows that more nostalgia could be on the way in Hollywood as it is close to the August 8 release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which was released this year. Ninja Turtles went on to gross $65 million in its opening weekend.

Some Big Names Attached To 'Power Rangers' Don't Seem Like Realistic Casting Choices

As of now, not much is known about the reboot other than that it would infuse some new Rangers into a plot line with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The show will also try and keep some continuity from the original series and bridge the old with the new for both veteran fans and the ones that will come for the new movie.

X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz are working on the script with Transformers and Star Trek writer Roberto Orci overseeing the screenwriting process and executive producing the movie. Orci has worked on most of the nostalgia movies of the last few years including The Amazing Spider-Man and episodes of Hawaii Five-O.

With a release date set, it seems like the script must be moving along well and some more news could be coming soon. No news yet on casting with rumored names like Liam Hemsworth as possibilities.
