The next Thor movie is a definite priority for Marvel, the only question around it is when they want to do it. It seems now like their star is what will decide when the movie gets made and if it will be sooner rather than later.

What We Know So Far About Thor 3

For the past few months, star Chris Hemsworth has dropped a few hints that the production on the third installment of the Thor franchise will be taking a while to get around to happening. During Comic-Con, the actor talked with Collider about where Thor 3 was and he gave an update saying, "Yeah I got a lot of time. I don't think it's just yet, Thor 3. I think it's a ways away."

Hemsworth's definition though of a lot of time could be different than most. The actor is slated to star in Michael Mann's Blackhat and Ron Howard's Heart of the Sea during 2014 and 2015.

Will Thanos Appear In The Next Thor Movie & Start The Story For Avengers 3?

He's rumored for Shane Black's Doc Savage, which could go into production at some point during 2015, and he's taking over the Snow White and the Huntsman franchise with his own Huntsman-centric spin-off in 2016, with production slated to begin in 2015.

This doesn't leave too much room for the Australian actor to work on a Thor movie, with the most logical decision being to start production after 2016 with a possible 2017 release. But this could complicate things since Marvel has already set writers in motion and working on a script.

It seems like a hectic schedule could push Thor 3 to a 2017 or even 2018 release, but not much longer than that.
