Series creator Nick Pizzolatto has been playing things close to the vest when it comes to True Detective's second season on HBO, but the writer hasn't been worried about discussing his relationship to the show's upcoming episodes.

In an interview last week with The Hollywood Reporter (featured below), Pizzolatto opened up significantly about how he dealt with the rising fame of Season 1 and how that has informed his writing for the next season.

"I can tell you that season two is really personal," he explained, noting that not everyone will be satisfied with Season 2, which is set in California and features an all-new cast. Pizzolatto accepts that this is simply the nature of things. "Meeting someone's expectations means not meeting someone else's expectations," he declared, and he is all right with that.

As for the media, Pizzolatto might not be doing too much reading about the show over the next few months. For Season 1, he stopped looking into the series online after three weeks of filming. While some of the fans were incredibly supportive, others were a little too intense or particular for Pizzolatto to handle.

"When something you make connects with people," he said, "they want to possess it."

Fans have certainly become possessive about the show's return in 2015, particularly when it comes to casting. Rumors have emerged left and right regarding who will star on the critically-acclaimed drama. Nearly everyone has an opinion, or a theory, and Pizzolatto has done his best to ignore the gossip and stay true to who he is as a storyteller.
