On August 19, director Leigh Whannell announced that it was the last day of shooting on Insidious Chapter 3 via his Twitter account.

"Last day of shooting on Insidious Chapter 3! I'm still alive!" he tweeted.

Whannell's collaborator and director of the previous Insidious films, James Wan, responded to the tweet joking about how Whannell hadn't given it is his all if he was still living.

Stefanie Scott, Dermot Mulroney and Lin Shayne star in the movie.

Blum (Blumhouse Productions) is co-producing the third film with Peli (Paranormal Activity). Whannell, who wrote the first two chapters of the franchise -- which were directed by James Wan (Fast and Furious 7) -- is helming Insidious 3.

Here's the official movie synopsis:

"In Insidious: Chapter 3, a twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further."

Insidious: Chapter 2 was released on Sept. 13 and topped the U.S. box office scoring $41.1 million over in its opening weekend. The film stars Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Ty Simpkins, and Barbara Hershey reprised their roles from  the first film in the series. 

The first film followed the story of the haunted Lambert family, whose son inexiplicably enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for demons. In Insidious: Chapter 2, the married couple try to explore the secrets that tie them to the paranormal world and the demons that possessed their son.

Insidious 3 will release on May 29 2015.
