With casting underway, recent rumors regarding HBO's True Detective have gone from speculation to accepted truth overnight.

'True Detective' Could Nab HBO Fall Slot For 2015

As the only big name star rumored to be up for a female lead on the series, Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss has seemed like a guarantee for some fans of the criminal drama. However, a recent interview with The Daily Beast indicates the actress might not be all-in after all.

"There's no hard truth to it…" admitted Moss in reference to the rumors. "But it's always flattering."

'True Detective' Gets A 'Chinatown' Spin For Season 2

While some assumed the actress was merely giving the standard vague response for a highly guarded secret, True Detective Rumors voiced some concern Monday regarding her response. The fact that she admitted there is "no hard truth" to reports that she will be involved with True Detective's second season shakes the foundation of recent casting assumptions, which places Moss alongside Colin Farrell (Minority Report, Saving Mr. Banks) and Vince Vaughn (Wedding Crashers, Into the Wild).

The concern is that if Moss really doesn't have any involvement with True Detective, then the credibility of rumors regarding Farrell and Vaughn will also crumble. That would put theorists back at square one.

The longer casting goes on, the more impatient fans grow to know the truth, especially since creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto has remained so tight-lipped regarding the show's new storyline. He's previously shot down a number of casting rumors, as well as theories regarding the number of leads set for the new season.
