Some familiar faces from The Vampire Diaries will officially be guest starring on The Originals this season, though it is uncertain which CW characters will be showing up in New Orleans.

Creator and producer Julie Plec first announced news of a definitive crossover episode on Monday in Entertainment Weekly.

"It looks like we are going to be able to do a crossover in the first half of the season," explained Plec regarding The Originals, "And I can't tell you what or who or when because it hasn't been shot yet, but things are looking good."

Showrunners are currently in the process of putting together episode six and so the crossover won't be happening right away, but Plec's enthusiasm seems promising.

Talk of a crossover episode for season two first emerged at Comic-Con in San Diego last month, where Plec revealed the a crossover would be great if it fit within the realm of the story, but would be difficult logistically since the shows film in different locations.

As a result, it's likely the guest star for The Originals this season won't be a big name player.

Last season The Originals managed one crossover story-line and The Vampire Diaries, on which the series is based, got one as well when Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) returned to Mystic Falls to watch Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) infamous doppelganger meet her end. This particular crossover also marked the 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries, which was surely no coincidence.

The Originals returns to The CW with new episodes on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
