Footage from the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries hit the web and it proves that the new episodes will be emotional.

In the 20-second trailer, fans get a glimpse of Elena's (Nina Dobrev) grief after losing the love of her life Damon (Ian Somerhalder.)

The opening scene shows Stefan (Paul Wesley) telling Elena over the phone, "Damon's gone. You need to say good bye to him."

Elena then breaks down in tears. The following scenes show Elena demanding to see her dead boyfriend.

"Elena, move on," Damon's ghost tells her. Clearly she can't.

Executive producer Julie Plec previously revealed to TVGuide.com that Elena will have some "awkward coping mechanisms."

Elena, she also said, will lean on Damon's brother Stefan, who is also finding ways to get over his devastating loss.

"They connect over the fact that sometimes it takes extreme choices to move past something that has hurt you so deeply," she said of the two. "So we will see their friendship able to be strong and healthy in spite of the way each of them individually are dealing with their loss."

Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8/7c on The CW.
