It appears that intense chemistry wasn't enough to keep Michelle Rodriguez and Zac Efron together, because the actress reportedly couldn't get over her ex-girlfriend, Cara Delevingne.

According to E! Online, the recent split between Rodriguez and Efron ( who  shocked the world when they went public with their whirlwind romance), was due in large part to Delevingne-who Rodriguez ended things with in May.

The website reports that the model was always coming up, and began to drive a wedge between the new couple-especially when Delevingne was also on the same yacht as the couple during both their recent getaways to Ibiza.

"Cara was always being mentioned," a source told the website. "Cara would spend time on the same boat and Cara and Michelle have all the same friends. It was just a lot. It was always, 'Cara, Cara, Cara.'"

And it appears seeing one another again in Ibiza may have been what the two needed to potentially rekindle their romance-as they have since been spotted together again in New York, hanging out at the Mercer Hotel together August 19.

"They are clearly best friends and they have never stopped talking to each other," the source said. "Michelle is very mature. She wants everyone to be happy."

Rumors first emerged that Rodriguez may be trying to win back her ex-girlfriend after she was spotted in Ibiza wearing a t-shirt promoting the same 'Free the Nipple' campaign that Delevingne has been a champion of.

And though his romance ended, Efron appears to be okay with the split, as he was spotted in L.A. after the news broke, hard at work the set of his new movie We Are Your Friends, and participating in the ALS Ice Bucket challenge.
