It's already been a year since Miley Cyrus stunned many with her controversial performance at the MTV Video Music Awards along with Robin Thicke.

Craziest VMAs Red Carpet Outfits Ever

While Cyrus isn't expected to hit the stage again, the list of performers this year won't disappoint. Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Usher and Beyonce will all do what they've been doing for years.

Minaj, who broke a Vevo record with her new video for Anaconda by getting 19.6 million views in only 24 hours, may be the artist to shock this year.

Several newcomers will join the aformentioned stars, including Ariana Grande and Australian heartthrobs 5 Seconds of Summer. Iggy Azalea, the Australian rapper who dominated the charts with Fancy, will also perform as well as Stay With Me singer, Sam Smith.

The Craziest VMA Moments in History

"I have watched the VMAs every year since I was a kid," Smith said in a statement. "I am so insanely nervous but also so honored to be performing. This truly is a pinch yourself moment for me."

Smith is also up for the Artist To Watch award against 5 Seconds of Summer, Charli XCX, Fifth Harmony and Schoolboy Q.

Beyonce's Drunk in Love, Pharrell Williams' Happy, Iggy Azalea's Fancy, Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball and Sia's Chandelier are also up against each other for Video of the Year, which is probably the most anticipated award every year.

This year's show is taking place at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. for the first time ever and it kicks off at 9/8c on MTV. Watch every moment of the award show via the live stream here.
