With the upcoming release of Blake Shelton's new album Bringing Back the Shine, the country artist has been pushed into an already blazing spotlight.

Blake Shelton Talks 'Sad' State Of Intolerance

While his wife and fellow country artist Miranda Lambert continues to promote her June album Platinum, Shelton his just starting his promotion, having released the new single Neon Light only last week.

"The song, the melody, the chorus is so George Jones or George Strait. It really is," explained Shelton, talking about the single's strong ties to country music in Rolling Stone on Friday.

"Of course, I'm always going to have the haters and critics and there that say it's not," he added, "But then, kiss my a--! I know more about those records than a lot of people."

Whatever Shelton is doing, it sure seems to be working. Shelton has had 12 consecutive chart-topping songs during his career, which is more than any other country music performer, and Neon Light could just be his 13th.

"I had the good fortunate, or misfortunate, that if I open my mouth, there's not much I can do about it," admitted Shelton, "I'm country, and I'm stuck with it."

As for being a country music singer to the very core, Shelton doesn't worry about it. "I've never had goals or aspirations of crossing over into rock, or pop, or any of those things…" he added, "There would be nothing about that that came from my heart."

Bringing Back the Shine is scheduled to hit stores September 30, 2014.
