In the first teaser of season of The Vampire Diaries, Stefan tells Elena that she needs to move on from Damon. However, the personal conversation is over the phone and not face-to-face because Stefan is far away.

"When the season begins, Stefan will definitely not be anywhere near Mystic Falls. In fact, he will have taken up a surprising new profession in his new 'home,'" TVGuide.com reported.

Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan on the hit CW show, previously revealed his character's disappearance during an interview with TVFanatic.com at Comic-Con in San Diego in July.

"He takes off, he leaves town and he decides that he doesn't want to have any part," Wesley said. "We think that he's searching for Damon and Bonnie. We think that he's being proactive but in reality he's gone. He's doing his thing and he's completely disinterested, he's apathetic, he's given up."

On the other hand, Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be distraught that Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is gone. "She's devastated. She lost her boyfriend and her best friend and I mean how could you be anything but? She's not happy at all," Dobrev told the website.

In the trailer, Damon even tells Elena to let him go. Will she ever be able to leave him behind?

Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries premieres on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 8/7c on The CW.
