Patricia Yurena Rodriguez, a former Miss Spain winner, is the first openly gay beauty queen of her country.

The 24-year-old came out last week via Instagram when she shared an intimate photo of herself with girlfriend DJ Vanessa Cortes.

"Romeo and Julliet," she captioned a photo of the two of them in bed. The picture has garnered more than 8,000 likes and over 1,000 comments to date.

Two days later she posted a note on Instagram thanking those who have supported her and showed her love. She also shared another snapshot with her girlfriend, whom she met through mutual friends last year.

Two months ago, before she came out, Rodriguez also posted another photo with her girlfriend, in which she gave Cortes a kiss on the cheek.

Rodriguez said that she's happy with her decision to come out. "I do not regret what I did," Rodriguez told local Spanish newspaper, La Opinion de Tenerife. "I'm thrilled with what is happening to me."

Rodriguez was crowned Miss Spain in 2008 and again last year. She also came in second in the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Russia, but lost to Maria Gabriela Isler from Venezuela.
