Steven Moffat Dishes On Matt Smith Surprise 'Doctor Who' Return, Does It Make Sense?

Titled "Robots Of Sherwood," the Mark Gattis (Sherlock) penned episode will take the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his companion back to the middle ages and into the world of Robin Hood.

"In a sun-dappled Sherwood forest, the Doctor discovers an evil plan from beyond the stars and strikes up an unlikely alliance with Robin Hood," stated the BBC (via Doctor Who TV). "With all of Nottingham at stake, the Doctor must decide who is real and who is fake. Can impossible heroes really exist?"

Master Won't Return To 'Doctor Who', Steven Moffat Explains Why

Will the Doctor believe that the seemingly mythical Robin Hood is real? Can the famed archer put his trust in a time traveling alien from Gallifrey? According to showrunner Steven Moffat, those questions of trust will lead to a bit of a quarrel between Hood and the Doctor.

"With all of Nottingham at stake (and possibly Derby), there's no time for the two adventurers to get into a fight about who is real and who isn't - which is probably why they do very little else!" Moffat told the Radio Time (via Blogter Who).

The episode will feature Tom Riley as Robin Hood, Ben Miller as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, Ian Hallard as Alan-a-Dale, and Trevor Cooper as Friar Tuck.
