Blake Shelton returns to old values as a musician with his upcoming country album Bringing Back the Shine.

Blake Shelton Is Sure Glad To Be 'Stuck' With Country Music

"The whole album is searching for parts of me that I think have… not gotten lost along the way, but stuff that I haven't addressed in my music as much as I used to," explained the singer in an interview with Rolling Stone on Wednesday.

The album harkens back to the themes of "drinking," "heartbreak," and "how people treat you."

While Shelton's recent work has proved to be more upbeat, his aim with this album is to do something he hasn't done for a while. "My last couple of albums have been so positive, because when I made them I was just getting married. It's been in this awesome place," he admitted, "But after a while, as a country singer, I gotta get back to singing about getting drunk because there's people out there -- and I've been one of then -- that have had their heart broken, or they've had a tough day at work, or they get stabbed in the back."

With the recent release of Neon Light, Shelton's first single off the album, Shelton is likely gearing up for a lot of press over the next few months. After all, his wife and fellow country singer Miranda Lambert did half a dozen award show performances and a fair number of interviews before even heading out on tour to promote her June 3 album Platinum.

Shelton has always presented the image of being a pretty laid-back guy and has tried not to let the press get to him, but Lambert has admitted that it isn't always as easy for her.

"I usually don't [read reviews]…" said Lambert in an August 16 interview with Parade. "I feel like it can become a bad habit to take all that to heart. The good is great but then there can also be bad ones, and I think if you're too hard on yourself about it you'll over-think everything."

Lambert continues her Platinum tour this month. Shelton's new album, Bringing Back the Shine, hits stores September 30.
