On August 27, it was announced that Rila Fukushima will be joining the cast for season 3 of Arrow to play the part of Tatsu Yamashiro, a character from Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) past.

Arrow's 50th Episode To Feature Scene '2 Years In The Making'

Deadline reported that Fukushima is stepping in place of Devon Aoki, who had initially signed on to play the character. Fukushima starred in The Wolverine.

The character orginated in the Green Arrow series of graphic novels published by DC Comics. Tatsu will be known for her masterful wielding of the murderous blade called the Katana. The name for Tatsu's superhero alter ego Katana is derived from her sleight of hand with the blade. Tatsu will appear in flashbacks which will help illuminate the backstory of Oliver Queen.

Cassidy Alexa To Play Harley Quinn In Season 3 Of Arrow?

The first episode of season 3 is titled, The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak.

Here's the synopsis:

"In the aftermath of this victory, Season Three opens with Arrow now a hero to the citizens of Starling. Crime is down, people feel safer, and Captain Lance even calls off the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. Basking in his success, Oliver believes he can finally have a private life and asks Felicity out on a date. But the second Oliver takes his eye off the ball, a deadly villain reappears in Starling, forcing Oliver to realize that he can never be Oliver Queen - not as long as the city needs The Arrow."

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim also spoke about Felicity's mom in an interview. "We've established in the past that mom is a cocktail waitress in Vegas," said Guggenheim. "She and Felicity are two very different people. Episode five, which is when Felicity's mom comes to town, really deals with the differences between these two women and how much of their relationship is a struggle as a result. It's a real challenge for these two people to find some common ground."

Guggenheim also spoke about how the subject of Felicity's dad will also be addressed in the season.

"The mystery of who Felicity's dad is probably gets extended more than it gets answered," Guggenheim said.

The finale of season 2 of Arrow aired on May 14 on the CW.

Season 3 premieres on October 8 on The CW.
