The Sopranos may have ended back in 2007, but fans who've been speculating about the controversial ending over the last seven years may finally have their answer, or at least an answer.

Moving Tribute To James Gandolfini

The internet erupted earlier this week when David Chase, creator of the iconic HBO series, told Vox that Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) isn't necessarily dead. According to a statement on Wednesday by Chase's representative Leslee Dart, the "Tony Soprano is not dead" concept is an oversimplification of what it was Chase had originally said.

"There is a much larger context for that statement and as such, it is not true…" explained Dart. "The final scene of THE SOPRANOS raised a spiritual question that has no right or wrong answer."

According to Dart, Chase has noted on numerous occasions that "whether or not Tony Soprano is alive or dead is not the point."

"To continue to search for this answer is fruitless," added Dart. Nonetheless, this hasn't stopped fans from trying over the years, desperate to discover the truth behind a character whom they have yet to stop speculating about.

The Sopranos ended in 2007 with Tony, his wife (Edie Falco), and son (Robert Iler) sitting together at a restaurant before cutting to black, leading many viewers to believe something was wrong with their televisions.

When the credits finally began to roll, they realized that this was in fact Chase's intended ending, and they've been talking about it ever since.
