Despite Austin Mahone saying his favorite One Direction member was Liam Payne, the 18-year-old actually just revealed a funny moment with Niall Horan.

Austin Mahone Dishes On Next Album After Tour Ends

On Wednesday, Mahone spilled to Hollywood Life that he saw Horan at last year's Video Music Awards in NYC. "Last VMAs I performed on the pre show, I was back and getting ready for my performance and One Direction walks in," he said. "I see Niall and he saw my shoes and he was like, 'Oh man, those are the sickest shoes I have ever seen!' And he was obsessed with my shoes and couldn't stop looking at them, so I thought that was pretty cool."

Back in June, Mahone revealed his admiration of 1D. "They're cool. They were just chill and they're nice guys," he told Yahoo. "I think Liam's the coolest," Mahone said. "I don't know [why], I just think he's the nicest."

Mahone is currently on his summer tour with Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes and The Vamps. Their next stop is Greensboro, NC on Friday and then Charleston, SC on Saturday.

After the tour wraps up, Mahone is going back in the studio to work on his first full-length album. His EP The Secret just came back out in May.

Mahone told Fuse on Tuesday about his new album, "The EP was just a little project, throwing it out there. I'm excited because I'm working with Max Martin [known for his work with Taylor Swift] and a bunch of different talented people. I think my first album is going to be really, really amazing."
