A recent production sighting for HBO's Boardwalk Empire may give new insight into the prohibition drama's series finale.

'Boardwalk Empire' Gets A Sinister New Trailer

A Scarsdale report on Thursday revealed that the program had recently been filming at the Scarsdale pool complex.

It seems the pool was being used for some underwater scenes over the course of two days. These water scenes are said to be related to the final episode of the upcoming fifth season, meaning they could be pretty significant. It is uncertain, however, whether they will be part of the drama's 1930s present or if these scenes will be part of flashback sequences from Nucky Thompson's (Steve Buscemi) childhood.

'Boardwalk Empire' Films At Historic NY Location

Terms between the show and the Scarsdale Parks and Recreation department were agreeable. The show paid $20,000 total to use the location for both days, as well as made a $3,000 donation to the complex for new equipment.

With fewer patrons at the pool so late in August, the Parks and Recreation department managed to keep some sections of the complex open to residents even as the HBO series set up for production.

Earlier this month the series was spotted filming scenes from Al Capone's (Stephen Graham) infamous trial. It is believed the trial will also be part of the series finale. With the trial, scores to settle, and the ending prohibition nearing, the last hour of the HBO drama is sure to be a fully packed one.

Boardwalk Empire returns to HBO for a fifth and final season Sunday, September 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
