With X-Men hitting peak popularity after the success of Days of Future Past, the studio may look to capitalize on that and start to spin-off other X-Men related movies outside of the normal franchise. Could that mean the X-Force is teaming up soon?

'X-Men: Apocalypse' Star Spills Affection Towards Franchise, Working On The Next Script

It has been a long-time rumor that X-Force was going to be made with the most recent commitment coming last year when Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow was attached to direct with Rob Leifeld, creator of the team, completing the first draft of a script for a 2016 release.

But the announcement that Apocalypse would follow Days of Future Past put the X-Force idea on the back burner. But could it still have life and with a few big names?

Marvel Head Has Kind Words For 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past'

In the comics, the group was originally a revamped version of the 1980s team, the New Mutants. Led by the mutant Cable, X-Force was a more militant and aggressive group compared to the X-Men. The original line-up of the team included Boom Boom, Cable, Cannonball, Domino, Feral, Shatterstar and Warpath. In later issues, X-Force's roster would include Siryn, Rictor and Sunspot.

During a Twitter Q&A back in June, Liefeld teased that Cable would lead the team and be played by either The Dark Knight Rises star Tom Hardy or Mad Men star Jon Hamm.

It is also rumored that Deadpool could be a part of the team with Ryan Reynolds playing the role. The movie would be used as a segway between showing off the character and making a standalone movie if he takes off.

Cable has also been a named linked to appearing in Apocalypse, which could segue that movie to the X-Force one.
