While his appearance was almost seen in the first movie, it could lead the way for the character Nova to pop up in the sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy and join the team for their next adventure.

Robert Downey Jr. Dishes On What He Thinks Is The Best Marvel Movie Yet

Director James Gunn has already said that he hasn't wanted to see Nova in the movies, but with the success of the first movie, and a groundswell of fans clamoring for the characters, it could lead to Nova showing up and helping the Guardians.

In the comics, Nova derives his powers from an energy source called the Nova Force which all Nova Corps Centurions wield. This energy was transferred by Xandarian technology to Rider by the Nova-Centurion Rhomann Dey.

One 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Character Almost Looked Very Different

Nova's small measure of the Nova Force gives him superhuman powers including flight, superhuman strength, speed, and durability, as well as the power to absorb energy directed against him and release it as gravimetric pulses and beams.

Nova could link the newly formed team with the Nova Corps, who at the end of the first movie showed support for the Guardians. But that support could waver if things happen between movies and Richard Rider could be the inside for the Nova Corps with the team that is looking for villains to face.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be written and directed by James Gunn with the cast from the first movie expected to return, including Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana.

The film is set to be released on July 27, 2016.
