Longtime pro Karina Smirnoff is unsure if Hough signing on to judge is ethical due to her brother Derek Hough being a pro.

"I think she is a great girl, I've known her for many years," Smirnoff told Us Weekly this week, discussing Julianne. "I think that she is wonderful, gorgeous, and talented, but I don't know if it's ethical that she is judging while her brother is competing."

Julianne Hough Won't Be a Mean DWTS Judge, Though She Will Be 'Honest'

Julianne has previously guest-judged in Season 17 and 18, during which Derek was a competitor. She was also a previous dancer on the show during Seasons 4-8, winning her first two seasons with Apolo Anton Ohno and Hélio Castroneves, respectively.

Smirnoff admitted that it may not be completely fair to have Julianne as a judge but has made peace with the development.

"I may be the most fair person in the world, but if my mom is dancing and she trips, I would be like, 'Well, I didn't see that...'" Smirnoff said. "That is my mother, and I will go stand by her side and support her regardless. Do I think it's fair? No. But it is a TV show. That is what we have to remember. It's not necessarily the Bible, it's just a TV show."

The upcoming season will feature Smirnoff, Derek and 11 other pro dancers who will hope to guide their celebrity partner to victory.

Dancing With the Stars Season 19 begins Monday, Sept. 15 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
