After four seasons as showrunner, there is an increasing likelihood that Moffat will soon step down. A close connection to the series recently announced that Horowitz is in the running should the position open up, according to Doctor Who Worldwide.

Philip Morris, a fan that helped restore Doctor Who's "The Enemy of the World" and "The Web of Fear" to the BBC, put Horowitz name alongside the already posited possibilities of Mark Gatiss ("Robot of Sherwood," "The Crimson Horror"), Neil Cross ("Hide," "Rings of Akhaten"), Toby Whithouse ("A Town Called Mercy," "The God Complex") and Chris Chibnall ("The Power of Three," "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship").

Horowitz has no Doctor Who experience, but the author and scriptwriter is also no stranger to television, sci-fi, or Moffat. The Brit is responsible for the popular Alex Rider and Gatekeepers YA series; the creator of television's Crime Traveller, Foyle's War, Collision, Murder in Mind, The Diamond Brothers, and Injustice; and a former writer for Poirot and Midsomer Murders.

Doctor Who airs Saturdays on BBC and BBC America. Click the video below to see a preview for the series' next episode, "Robot of Sherwood."
