The new cast of CBS's long-running reality competition Survivor will be featuring a very controversial figure from the world of baseball.

Survivor Season 29 Cast Revealed, Including 'Spider-Man' Actor, Controversial Baseball Player

Former MLB player John Rocker and his girlfriend Julie McGee will be competing on the new season of Survivor, subtitled San Juan del Sur. The Blood vs. Water twist allows pairs of loved ones to compete with and against each other, and John and Julie are just one of multiple couples competing this season.

John, 39, is relatively infamous for his quotes about New York, saying he is uncomfortable being next to a "queer with AIDS" as well as "foreigners" speaking different languages. While his social game might be a bit lacking, he will be relying on his athletic ability to get further in the game.

"A relatively significant part of Survivor depends on athletic ability and I spent more than a decade of my life physically competing at the highest level," he says in his CBS bio. "I still retain much of that physical ability as well as the mental toughness that is required. I also possess a high quality of outdoor survival skills which will be valuable to those around me as well as leadership skills and the ability to influence people and easily make friends."

John's girlfriend Julie, 34, describes herself as "loyal, determined and positive" and says the reason she will win Survivor is because "I am super determined when I put my mind to a task. I am not one to look for help, if I need something, I make it happen. I believe I could be one of the last few on the show."

Survivor: San Juan del Sur premieres Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
