They split just shy of one year ago after she became surrounded by a storm of controversy following her VMAs performance, but being apart hasn't softened the feelings between Miley Cyrus and ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth.

In a recent interview with Australia's Sunday Night, the 21-year-old singer admitted that despite the pair calling off their engagement on September 16 last year, mere weeks after her VMA scandal with Robin Thicke, there's still a great amount of love between the two.

"I love Liam," she said during the interview. "Liam loves me."

And though the couple, who met on the set of their 2010 film The Last Song and announced that they were engaged in 2012, split shortly before the release of Cyrus' album Bangerz, she insists that hits like Wrecking Ball had nothing to do with her break-up.

"It's about finding yourself, and sometimes you have to separate yourself from everyone," she said. "I just had to become this person who is sitting in this chair right now. If I didn't, I just felt like there was something that was going to explode and I had to set myself free."

Things seemed to be going south for Cyrus and Hemsworth last year after her infamous twerking incident while performing with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards. Just weeks later the couple announced their split, though Hemsworth's reported cheating became the rumored cause when he was spotted kissing Eiza Gonzalez just one day after they announced their split.
