On Monday, country superstar Carrie Underwood announced that she and NHL husband Mike Fisher are expecting their first child. This news may not have an impact on Underwood's upcoming, currently untitled album, but it will certainly factor in to recent talk that the singer is a candidate for performing the halftime show for the 2015 Super Bowl.

Word of Underwood potentially landing the coveted gig first emerged in August, when bloggers and journalists alike started floating the star's name around.

According to Taste of Country on August 13, the singer's history with the NFL makes her a strong candidate. She's preformed NBC's Sunday Night Football anthem two years in a row. She also sang the National Anthem at the Superbowl in 2010.

With Underwood's baby news, however, the star will be about six months pregnant when the Super Bowl arrives this February. While performers have indeed attended events and even done shows all while having a baby bump, the halftime show is a pretty big gig.

Underwood and Fisher, who have been married for four years, elected to announce their big news on Twitter Monday. With their dogs Ace and Penny wearing "BIG BROTHER" and "BIG SISTER" photos, the country singer claimed that they had something to tell everyone. "Their parents couldn't be happier!" wrote Underwood.

It is still too early to know the gender of the baby just yet, though with Underwood's track record she might just call upon Ace and Penny when it comes time to break the news.
