With the possible departure of Emma Stone from the Spider-Man franchise, the actress talked about her work on the movie and hinted that producers told her up front that they wanted to play out the story of Gwen Stacy like the comics, but does that include her clone after death?

Will 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3' Plot Center Around The Hunt Of The Web-Slinger?

Speaking in an interview with Sony recently, Stone talked about Gwen Stacy's story and what she was so interested in with this character.

"I was really attached to the storyline from the comics," Stone said. "But they had said up front, when I auditioned, that it was their intention to follow through with Gwen's story. That is arguably what she is best known for, historically with the comic books, her ending is what she is most identified by."

'Divergent' & 'Wolf of Wall Street' Star Could Be Mary Jane Watson In 'Amazing Spider-Man 3?'

With her death now apart of the franchise, and the popularity of Stone, could the producers look for a way to bring her back in some form to the franchise? And could that follow the comics in clone form?

In the comics, approximately two years after her death, Gwen Stacy reappears perfectly healthy but with no memory of the time since her death. The Jackal has managed to create a clone of Gwen and has babies with her, and uses her as part of a plot against Spider-Man. At the end of that story, Gwen's clone leaves to find a new life for herself.

This is an interesting route to go and would allow them to bring Stone back, even if in a smaller role than before. It also would allow for some sort of roadblock with the emergence of Mary Jane Watson in the next movie.

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set to open in theaters in 2018.
