Country superstar Carrie Underwood may be a fierce performer, but the singer broke down in Nashville on Tuesday as she received the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award at the 8th Annual ACM Honors.

Donning a somewhat fitted dress with a stitched top and pleated pink bottom, the 31-year-old began to cry during her speech, according to E! on Wednesday.

"I was getting misty-eyes sitting the the audience," said a tearful Underwood when she finally got onstage. "I had all kinds of stuff to say and you guys it's all gone. I am so honored and so thankful and so blessed."

The singer also gave a special thank you to her husband Mike Fisher of four years, who plays in the NHL for the Nashville Predators.

It was announced a few months ago that Underwood would be receiving the award, though its doubtful that she was prepared to get so emotional. Of course, a lot as changed since then. Last week Underwood announced that she and Fisher are expecting their first child together, which could have perhaps accounted for some of her sensitivity. In fact, host for the event Jake Owen even said as much.

"Mike, let me let you in on something," he told the singer's husband. "Women get very emotional when they're pregnant. Roll with it. If she says the sky is green, the sky is green."

While the ceremony proved to be an emotional time, Underwood seemed to be in good spirits about the whole thing later that evening.

"Had such a great night at the ACM Honors!" she tweeted afterwards. "Now everyone can go back to making fun of me for crying."
