It seems like Captain America may have a new team of heroes to help him out following the next Avengers movie, but that doesn't necessarily mean the plot for the next movie will follow one of the more famous Marvel comics storylines, but that isn't ruling it out for the future.

'Captain America 3' Is Going To 'Blow Minds,' Say Directors

In an interview with Desde Hollywood on Wednesday, film directors Joe and Anthony Russo talked plot direction for the next Captain America movie and why the Civil Wars comics would not be the story for that movie.

"It's complex. There are a lot of characters. Marvel doesn't have ownership of some of the key players in that," Joe said. "I don't run Marvel, so I can't say that it won't happen, but I would say that it is highly unlikely."

'Captain America' Star Downplays Rumors That He Is Leaving After Third Movie

The plot of the comic series follows a framework storyline in which the U.S. government passes a Superhero Registration Act ostensibly designed to have superpowered characters act under official regulation, somewhat akin to police officers. The superheroes are split into two factions with Captain America leading a team, and Iron Man leading the other.

But the Russos added that it may not be impossible to accomplish, and the plot could appear in a movie in the future.

"Do [the cameo heroes] have to be under contract with Marvel? Maybe they are at another studio," they said.

"Listen, when I started collecting, The Secret Wars was one of the first books I ever bought, so that's always been an obsession of mine to see something of that scale done - a crossover. I don't know if that would ever be possible, with all the different situations at the studios. But I would love to see a lot of characters on screen together."

Captain America 3 is set to open on May 6, 2016.
